The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification is equivalent to the Certificate of Education (CertEd). It is also a good alternative to the Postgraduate Certificate in Education. This Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training will enable you to apply for QTLS status and be a recognised qualified teacher. Teachers with QTLS can also teach in schools.
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification consists of 4 mandatory units plus 8 optional units, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and the recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 360. The maximum guided learning hours will be determined by the optional units selected.
To achieve the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, learners must achieve a minimum of 120 credits; 75 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units in Group A, plus a minimum of 45 credits from the optional units in Group B.
A minimum of 61 credits must be at Level 5 (therefore a minimum of 6 optional credits must be achieved at level 5)
The learner will need to meet the requirements before OTHM can award the qualification, i.e. achieve the appropriate mandatory and optional units, as well as satisfactorily complete teaching practice.

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. It is a “in service” qualification created for persons who are employed as instructors or trainers in England or who aspire to do so. All students must have access to at least 100 hours of instruction and at least eight hours’ worth of practice observations.
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training’s main goal is to provide learners with the fundamental information, comprehension, and skills they need to demonstrate their vocational competence. This involves organising and carrying out lesson plans and sessions, negotiating individual objectives, utilising a variety of teaching and learning methodologies, communication problems, and evaluation techniques.
Additionally, optional units are available allowing the learner to explore areas directly relevant to their own teaching role.
Teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers, and instructors working within a FE college, Adult and Community Learning Centre, should pursue the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. Learning Provider or for people who give work-based training in organisations that are nonprofit, community-based, for-profit, or public.
The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) has authorised and is in charge of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training has been given the go-ahead for accreditation by the Education Training Foundation. The status of QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) will become available to learners who successfully complete this qualification.
For post-secondary education and training, the QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) designation is the mark of professionalism, assisting practitioners in advancing their careers and showcasing their knowledge and experience to coworkers, employers, and students.

The certification is flexible in how it is delivered to allow for part-time and distance learning in addition to being designed to be completed over the course of one academic year for full-time study.
Only authorised centres are permitted to provide the degree in person, via lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance learning, and online.
Assessment and verification
The centre conducts internal assessments of each unit for this qualification, and OTHM does an external verification. The credentials are based on the accomplishment of all the predetermined learning outcomes and are criterion referenced.
Learners must present proof that they have satisfied all learning outcomes and complete all assessment criteria requirements in order to receive a “pass” for a unit. The Assessor decides whether or not the Learners successfully met the assessment requirements.
Assignments, a portfolio of teaching proof, and classroom observations will all be used to evaluate the qualification. It is prohibited to simulate teaching for this certification. All learners must have access to 100 hours of teaching and there must be a minimum of eight observations of practice, totalling a minimum of eight hours.
The status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) will be available to learners who successfully complete this qualification. The Society for Education and Training (SET), the industry’s professional body for persons working as teachers and trainers, administers this independent and subsequent procedure known as professional formation through which this is granted.
Learners are qualified to advance to pertinent qualifications at higher levels since this qualification has been approved and is governed by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).
